About

Our History

The idea for the Faith-Based Network was hatched in 1996 during a casual chat among the heads of four long-term care providers in Southwestern Pennsylvania. When the conversation turned to ways in which their organizations could work together more efficiently, they discussed the idea of developing joint strategies and collaborating on services. They were especially interested in building a network connected by the common thread of faith.

In 1997, the Faith-Based Network incorporated as a shell, and the first four members set to work. They engaged consultants to assist in the planning process and honed the network’s purpose and strategy for several months. In 1998, they formally solicited interest from a group of local faith-affiliated, nonprofit long-term care providers with nursing home licenses. Although none of the organizations had been part of a network before, they welcomed the idea and were eager to make it work. FBN began operations in 1999 with 11 founding member organizations.

FBN has continued to grow and thrive since those early days. We now have 14 members representing 35 facilities, a full continuum of housing and home and community-based services, serving over 8,000 seniors every day. Our programs and service categories are expanding to keep pace with new demands. See our Innovations page to learn how our members have worked together to create services that meet their unique needs.
